Synthetic Turf FAQs
Why go with synthetic turf for your lawn?
Synthetic turf, done right, can give you back your beautiful lawn without the hassle or expense of maintaining it. No watering, no mowing, no fading, no fertilizing, no chemicals, no pet damage, no pests, no allergies and no muddy paw prints...and a lower overall cost too! Put simply, a synthetic turf lawn is an easy solution that saves you money and time as a homeowner or business owner.
What makes YourTurf different than other synthetic turf products?
YourTurf is the closest alternative to natural grass available today. YourTurf is a blend of polyethylene and polypropylene, silica sand and cryogenic rubber that gives years of grass-like appearance and use, without the regular maintenance of natural grass. The installation process includes layers of crushed rock aggregate that facilitates stability and excellent drainage, our polyethylene and polypropylene blades tufted into a permeable mat, and a superior infill of cryogenic rubber and silica sand that is unparalleled. This professional installation will provide the safest, most effective surface. YourTurf's line of synthetic grasses is resistant to temperature extremes, drains quickly and is extremely low-maintenance.
How long does it last?
We don't know for sure - YourTurf hasn't been replaced. Based on historical performance and current testing, a YourTurf artificial lawn is expected to have a 20-25 year life span. The oldest installation is located in Arizona and has been there for nearly 20 years. It still looks good and hasn't faded. YourTurf backs its high quality synthetic turf with a 15-year warranty.
How well does it drain?
The engineering of YourTurf's line of turf coupled with the crushed rock aggregate sub-base creates a wonderful drainage system for your yard. The backing on the turf is permeable for drainage and environmentally friendly at the same time. It also serves as a weed barrier. The sub-base is the other key component of the synthetic turf drainage system as it facilitates the reception of significant amounts of water during heavy rains.
Is it pet (especially dog) friendly?
So often our prospective customers say that they love their home and they love their dog but they just can't seem to marry the two - especially as it concerns the backyard with dirt coming in the house, etc. With a YourTurf artificial grass lawn, you can now have a dog and a green lawn. With over 70% of our existing customers being pet owners, YourTurf is a proven perfect solution for your yard. Fluids (e.g. urine) drain through, droppings can be picked up as they would for natural grass and/or rinsed off with a hose, and dog can't dig through a YourTurf lawn. Muddy paw tracks in your house and on your carpet will be a thing of the past while letting your dog out in the yard right after a bath will be a thing of the future!
What about my kids playing on YourTurf?
Kids love their YourTurf synthetic lawn and you will too! YourTurf is a softer and safer alternative to real grass and kids have loads of fun playing on it. Parents love it because there are no more stained pants and scraped knees that normally come with real grass. YourTurf's Playground turf combines the YourTurf synthetic grass system with padding below the turf that allows critical fall ratings acceptable to school yards, daycare centers and applicable residential settings. Contact YourTurf today for its long list of showcase playground synthetic turf installations.
How hot does the turf get?
YourTurf Synthetic Grass does not stay as cool as natural grass which has water running through it, but it does not absorb and radiate heat like pavement, brick or rock. Even through summer heat, a YourTurf artificial grass lawn will remain pleasantly functional.
Can it stain?
No. If there is spillage of some sort, it should be hosed off to prevent it from attracting dirt and bugs. Detergents and cleaners won't harm or discolor the YourTurf artificial grass products. Even paint can be softened with paint thinner and then rinsed off without impacting the fake grass.
What kind of maintenance does it require?
Maintenance on a YourTurf synthetic turf lawn is more a matter of keeping it clean than maintaining and it mainly comprises removing organic materials from the surface; typically by a leaf blower. Rakes may be required for removing heavier objects and won't harm the grass; however, the leaf blower is the ideal tool for general upkeep. A stiff, natural bristle broom can be used to "fluff" high traffic areas.
Why doesn't it fade?
All of YourTurf's synthetic grasses have a built-in UV protection solution that allows it to hold its color even under the most dramatic conditions. Independent studies show that a YourTurf artificial lawn fades at a rate of less than 1% per year. This means that after fifteen years in direct sunlight, any color change will still be imperceptible o the human eye.
How long does it take to install?
An average landscaping area might take two to three days. Each installation is customized so it is sometimes difficult to determine the estimated length of installation without a site visit.
Why is it important to work with a company that has a contractor's license?
When you contract to have work done in your home, remember that to do any project that total over five hundred dollars ($500.00), a company must have a valid contractor's license. By using a licensed contractor, you are assured that the contractor has adequate knowledge and experience to do your job right, and they are covered by the necessary bonding, insurance and workers compensation insurance to protect you, the homeowner. Without a license, you become liable. YourTurf is licensed, bonded and insured.
There are several companies selling synthetic turf. Why should I choose YourTurf?
A superior line of products, coupled with professional service second to none, makes YourTurf the only choice for your home or business turf needs. There are various newcomers in the synthetic lawn market but few that can offer the level of quality product and service that YourTurf provides. If you are considering a lesser turf, please be certain that you are dealing with a reputable firm that performs their own installations, has a contractor's license and is insured and bonded. Avoid the pain of an artificial grass lawn that does not last, that requires continual maintenance and that does not live up to claims of good drainage. As with everything else in life, you get what you pay for.
What about those companies that want to put the exact same turf used on athletic fields in my yard?
Have you ever watched a game on television being played on a synthetic turf field and wondered what that "dust" was that went flying up when a player landed on it? That is the infill of rubber and sand. From far away, those turf fields on TV look like regular green grass fields. However, up close, these turf fields are a "sea of black rubber" with only the very top of the green blades showing through. This is done for functional purposes as the athletic turf fields require a high level of cushion which I accomplished by a turf with less blades and more infill. For your residence or business, however, you don't want or need a sparse artificial lawn with a significant amount of black rubber showing. YourTurf, therefore, in addition to its line of athletic field turf, has designed an entire line of turf specifically for residential and commercial purposes which provides all the comfort and stability you need while at the same time providing an aesthetically superior grass. So, be cautious of those companies that are proposing to install the same exact field turf use on athletic fields at your residence or business.
How much does it cost?
YourTurf is not cheap...the best never is. Think of it as an asset and an investment that can increase the value of your property. Unlike most expenses you put into your home, YourTurf will pay for itself over a matter of a few years. For example, say you spend $200 per month on landscaping and water costs, that equates to $2,400 a year. Over five years, your cost is $12,000. The average YourTurf lawn can be installed for much less and lasts several more times than this.
Does all synthetic turf come with a warranty?
Most synthetic turf companies claim to have a warranty. The problem is that the warranty: i) does not cover many potential issues; ii) is usually for 10 years or less; and, iii) is often not honored by the synthetic turf company should an issue arise (YourTurf knows as it has often serviced numerous past customers of other synthetic turf companies). With YourTurf, your synthetic turf comes with a 15-Year warranty, the longest in the industry. Further, because YourTurf has the best product on the market place and it stands by its product, the YourTurf warranty covers many more potential issues that could arise with a synthetic grass installation as compared to any other company, including protection against fading from sunlight, discoloration from urine or chemicals/detergents and seaming issues. So, pay attention to the warranty and make sure to understand the company's policy (and history) should you need service after the installation. This can be evidenced by the company's Better Business Bureau rating with which YourTurf carries an AAA rating!
How does it affect my property value?
A YourTurf synthetic turf lawn has proven to increase property values as well as curb appeal. It is the most aesthetically pleasing and realistic looking synthetic turf on the market. As importantly, a YourTurf artificial lawn lowers water and maintenance costs and eliminates fertilizers, herbicides and mowers. Several of our customers have sold their homes and purchased new ones. They report that their YourTurf synthetic lawn added tremendously to the curb appeal of their home. Potential buyers were very excited about the prospect of purchasing a home with a beautiful lawn that required no maintenance.
