Artificial Grass / Turf Maintenance
Who says synthetic grass was maintenance free? Well, it is close, but not totally maintenance free. Even with a little bit of maintenance, artificial grass is still significantly less time consuming and much more cost effective than real grass. And with how real a YourTurf synthetic lawn looks today, there is no reason not to go with the newly designed faux grass from YourTurf.
If you have leaves on the ground and you don't want them there, you need to rake or blow the leaves to get them up; just like any real grass yard, with a YourTurf artificial lawn, you can use a rake or blower as well and the fake grass will not be disturbed. If your dog or cats have droppings on your YourTurf synthetic lawn, you can dispose of it in the same manner as your previous lawn, the only difference is your yard will stay its fresh, healthy looking color and size. If you have to clean your YourTurf lawn for any reason, our product has been tested against any type of chemicals found in detergents and cleaners so you can go ahead and clean away. For instance, if soft drinks spill on to the synthetic grass, you can rinse it and if need be use any type of cleaner on it to wash the grass and the synthetic grass will not discolor or be harmed. So, whether it be hosing, blowing, raking, brushing, etc., your YourTurf synthetic lawn can still be maintained with the same methods used on real grass lawns.
So, to say artificial grass lawns and putting greens are maintenance free is not totally correct. But, to say such maintenance is very light and inexpensive would be fully correct.
Here are some other suggestions and instructions for maintaining a YourTurf artificial grass lawn.
Routine Maintenance
Organic materials are typically removed from the surface by using a leaf blower that is the ideal tool for general upkeep of your turf. A stiff, naturual bristle push broom can be used to "fluff" high traffic areas.
A shop vacuum may be used for dry spills. Be sure to hold the suction end of the hose up and away from the surface to avoid removing the infill material while removing the debris.
Check periodically for weeds on edges, remove and/or use pre or post emergent (i.e. RoundUp) to control growth where these occur.
After heavy rains, if the infill appears to be disturbed due to surface water, let the area dry, remove surface debris and "bloom" the surface area with a push broom. This will redistribute the surface infill back to its original position.
Pet Clean-Up
Solid waste should be removed as you normally would clean up after your pet. Any remaining debris can be washed off with a hose. To avoid disturbing the infill materials, please do not aim the stream of the hose directly at the turf. During dry weather, irrigate the area that pets use with water or a combination of water and enzyme based cleaners (i.e. Nature's Miracle) to clean away debris and eliminate odors.
Spot Cleaning or Disinfecting
Any sticky spill should be rinsed thoroughly to keep dirt from sticking to the turf. Commercial disinfectants may be used, if necessary. However, be sure to irrigate afterward to push the disinfectant through the turf and away from pets and family members.
Food waste should be removed promptly to avoid pests from coming near your turf.
Paint may be removed with paint thinner or gasoline. Be sure to rinse afterward.
Use ice to remove gum from the surface.
